Remove Illustrator Background

The Pen Tool is unnecessary when the background is already a separate rectangle, group, or clipping object. Select it in the Layers panel and delete or hide it. This keeps paths, fills, strokes, and type editable.

For a flattened photo placed inside Illustrator, manual tracing can be slow. Export the artwork as a PNG or JPG and let CrePal detect the foreground subject. The returned transparent PNG is suitable for raster delivery, but it will not become a vector object when placed back into Illustrator.

CrePal's current Background Remover lists JPG and PNG as supported uploads. Choose PNG when the source already contains clean digital edges or when you want to avoid another lossy compression step. Use JPG when that is the only available source, then export at high quality.

In Illustrator, export the complete subject with enough padding around every edge. Do not crop through a shadow, outline, or small detail you expect the remover to preserve.

Vector lines remain mathematically sharp only in the vector source. Once exported, their quality depends on pixel dimensions. Hairline strokes can become one pixel wide or disappear if the export is too small.

Test thin type, line art, and small internal gaps over both light and dark backgrounds. If an important stroke is damaged, return to Illustrator and remove the background as a vector element instead of relying on a raster cutout.

Avoid exporting at screen-thumbnail size, including a hidden white rectangle, clipping part of the subject, using a color mode that shifts brand colors, or overwriting the vector source with a flattened file. Check whether effects such as blur, glow, and transparency render as expected.

Also avoid describing a raster PNG as an SVG or vector logo. File extension and editability should remain clear in the asset library.
